Grampian Police are investigating after a card scanning device was found attached to a Royal Bank of Scotland cash machine at Morrisons Supermarket, King Street, Aberdeen.
It is thought the device was attached at some time between mid afternoon on Tuesday 17 November and the early morning on Wednesday 18 November 2009.
Constable Ross Wallacesaid: "It is too early to be certain whether any individual cards has been affected by this device. If anyone is concerned regarding any irregular activity on their account I would advise them to contact their bank.
"I would also like to remind the public to be vigilant in regards to any suspicious activity around cash machines.
"In particular I would ask that people pay heed to any machine which seems unusually worn down, is missing a security camera, has wires showing or displays any unusual error messages.
"If anyone has any information regarding this device then I would be very interested in speaking to them."
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5 700 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
